My City My Place: Jammu

There are so many nice places on Earth. They are scattered across the country. Every place has its own distinct features. Some places have scenic beauty in abundance while many are famous for their architectural wonders. In addition, every person has different tastes, choices and likings. Several people enjoy the sight of scenic beauty, some are attracted towards places of historical and archaeological interests and a few may be interested in visiting places of religious importance.

I have visited so many places of historical and tourist interest. But the visit which has a lasting impression on my mind is the visit of my own city- Jammu, situated on a hillock, on the bank of river Tawi.

My city is one of the most beautiful cities in India. With lush green views, admiring hills, one cannot deny the beauty of this city. The allure and admiring beauty of Jammu invite everyone to this city. It is blessed by Goddess nature. Apart from the sightseeing, it has a lot of beautiful places to visit in Jammu. It is a great place for tourist spots, there are a lot of things to do in this city. It is a newly created Union Territory in India, administered by the Central Government of India. It is located to the north of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and to the west of Ladakh.

Jammu is known as the City of Temples and offers plentiful sightseeing opportunities with its gardens, palaces, forts and religious attractions, the most famous of which is Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra. If Bahu Mata is the presiding deity of Jammu, the Dargah of Peer Budhan Ali Shah is the other shrine that protects Jammuties. The other major attraction is the Raghunath Temple complex. It contains representations of almost entire Hindu pantheon, though the emphasis falls on the various incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

Famous tourist destinations here are:

Patnitop, a hill station, located between Ramban town and Udhampur city in the Ramban district of Jammu.

Mansar, a revered lake that carries religious meaning, fringed by forest-covered hills, located within the Surinsar-Mansar Wildlife sanctuary, east of Jammu city.

The major religion of Jammu region is Hinduisim. It still maintains Dogra traditions carried over from the Punjab region. The major tribes of this region are the Gujjars, Bakarwals and Gaddis, mostly nomadic in nature.

Also, this city has a unique cuisine and the Dogra dishes are famous all around India i.e. Rajma, Ambal rice. Patisa and Chocolate Barfi are the prominent sweets that have a special and mouth watering taste. Another renowned dish prepared here is Kalaadi.

Therefore, it always makes our holidays an unforgettable experience every time. One can come and experience the beauty of this city.
